Apple may release the 4G iPhone 6 as early as March 2012
We are still waiting for the fifth generation iPhone, and even though we are weeks away from the rumored release date for it (October 4th), Apple hasn’t said anything at all about it. We heard so many rumors about the iPhone 5 that we just want to see it launched, get over it, and start worrying about the next handset, the iPhone 6.
As of now we don’t really know a lot of things about the 2012 iPhone, but wait a couple of months and we should have more information that we can handle. If BusinessInsider is right, then we shall see the new iPhone 6 in the first quarter of the next year, around March. That might or might not be too early. It may seem early if it’s released only 6 months after the iPhone 5, but it sure isn’t too early if Apple wants its phone to stay competitive in the smartphones’ arena.
Just think about it: since 2012 is going to be the “4G LTE year” and the 5th generation iPhone will probably not support 4G, Apple won’t wait until summer or fall 2012 to release a LTE capable phone; if they will launch the smartphone later in the year, then they will probably have one the last smartphone to support LTE, and I am sure Apple doesn’t want that to happen.
While this is merely a rumor about the release date, there are facts that indicate to iPhone 6’s capabilities. According to sources within Apple’s supply chain, the Taiwanese company TSMC secured a contract with Apple to manufacture the A6 and A7 processors. The A6 is also being tested by TSMC to make sure it will work properly with the next Apple products, and won’t have overheating issues like the A5 chip recently tested in iPhone 5 concepts. The A6 processor will be powerful and fast enough and will allow the smartphone to run 4G LTE without any problems.
Apple fans are also expecting a radical design change for the next year’s iPhone, since they lost their hopes that they will see major changes in Apple’s 2011 smartphone. We might see a totally redesigned iPhone 6, with a slimmer chassis and a bigger than 4” display. To make room for such a large screen, but still keep a small overall phone size, Apple might no longer use the physical “Home” button for its smartphones; instead, the button will become a touchscreen button.
All these being said, we’re still in 2011, so all the rumors about the 6th generation iPhone must be taken with a grain of salt, until we hear something official from the Cupertino giant.
