iPhone 6 Rumored to Sport Curved Glass Display

Apple Purchased Glass Polishing Machines for Its Suppliers

Earlier this year we heard this rumor about Apple’s fifth generation iPhone, but now it seems that iPhone 6 will be the one to debut a curved screen. According to a source cited by the Taiwanese website, Digitimes, Apple is buying equipment for its glass displays suppliers G-Tech, Lens Technology and Fuji. This equipment will be used for polishing the curved glass screens that are rumored to make their way on Apple’s future iPhones and iPads in 2012.

The 2012 iPhone will not be the first smartphone to have a curved touchscreen; apparently this will be the trend for next year’s phones, since not only Apple is gearing up for production of this kind of displays.

Back in May, news coming from the same website said that the California-based company purchased over 200 glass-cutting machines that were to be used for cutting the curved glass screens for the iPhone5. Well, the iPhone 5 is getting ready to be released next week, and we really doubt that it will have a curved touchscreen. We are actually expecting to see two new iPhones being released next Tuesday, after Apple’s board member, Al Gore, hinted at this fact. I guess we will know for sure on October 4th, since this is the official date for the conference that will be held in Cupertino, CA. Apparently invites were sent to several reporters to attend this event.

iPhone 5 really managed to get a lot of people interested and excited about it, especially since it skipped the usual release date for iPhones, in June, and Apple kept mum about any aspect about it. However, rumors about its release date and/or specifications surfaced every other day, it seems.

It is very probable that this year’s iPhone won’t bring a lot of updates, other than a better 8 megapixel camera, and the faster dual-core A5 processor. All the big improvements are saved for the iPhone 6, or at least this is how it looks like. The 2012 iPhone will probably get a new facelift, with a curved touchscreen and a larger than 4 inch display. It will also be powered by a powerful, faster quad-core chip. Also, it is believed that it will be available on T-Mobile, as well, besides AT&T, Verizon and Sprint, since T-Mobile’s Chief Marketing Officer declared that its carrier won’t get the iPhone 5 this year.

So far, it really looks like the iPhone 6 will get all the good stuff, so if you’re not decided to buy its predecessor, wait until next year, and if the rumors turn out to be true about a Spring 2012 release, you only have about 6 more months to wait to get your hands on Apple’s sixth generation iPhone.
