If you have an iPhone 4S like me, you probably spent the weekend jailbreaking it and testing out new jailbreak apps and tweaks. I spent some time in Cydia and compiled a list of five packages you should install on your 4S. They’re good enough to make me think twice about going back to stock iOS when Apple rolls out its next update.
3G Unrestrictor 5
3G Unrestrictor is a hack that’ll let you send and receive FaceTime calls, share photos via Photostream, download large files from iTunes and using your 3G connection. Most of these services only work on WiFi, which makes it impossible to use them while you’re on the go. The hack tricks the app into thinking it’s connected to a WiFi network, even though it’s connected via 3G. I often use 3G Unrestrictor to FaceTime with my husband when I’m shopping. If I have a question about which speaker to buy, I can make a FaceTime call over 3G and show him his choices.
Zephyr
Zephyr is a multi-touch gesture hack that gives you access to the multitasking drawer so you can easily switch to a new app. It also lets you switch from open app to another open app with a side-to-side swipe. This latter gesture is extremely similar to OS X Lion which lets you swipe from one full screen app to another. Zephyr is available from Cydia for $2.99.
IntelliScreenX
IntelliScreenX is a lock screen and notification hack that’ll make it hard for you to go back to stock iOS 5. The add-on gives you a multi-pane notification screen that shows your email, Facebook news feed, Twitter stream, RSS feed, weather, and alerts. Besides just reading the content, IntelliScreenX also lets you mark items as read, click on links, and respond within the notifications. You can also display all this information on your lock screen, so you don’t have to unlock your phone to read the full text of an incoming email. IntelliScreenX is pricey at $9.99, but, in my opinion, it’s worth the investment.
Action Menu
Action Menu is a tweak that’ll add new options, besides the standard cut, copy and paste to the action menu. You can select text and define it, look up its meaning and even tweet it. The action menu is also contextual so you will be show different options depending on the app that you are using. The tweak is free, but the full action menu set is available in a plus pack that’ll cost you $2.99.
SiriToggles
SiriToggles is a Siri hack that’ll add a variety of commands including the ability to toggle on/off WiFi, Bluetooth, airplane mode and cellular data. You can also launch apps, adjust your brightness and retrieve your battery level. Now that the iPhone 4S is jailbroken, we can expect to see more Siri hacks like this land in Cydia.
To find these tweaks and hacks, just open Cydia and do some old-fashioned searching. If you have any other must-have jailbreak hacks for the iPhone 4S, please share them in the comments.
