The liquid crystal driving is divided into three methods such as TN, VA and IPS. Among them, TN method gets contrast ratio according that light passes through the liquid display based on its alignment. TN method doesn't show the screen well when the liquid crystal is not aligned into the directions or angles you want. It has color transfer from the viewing angle and it has some problems such as afterimage remaining in the fast video. VA (Vertical alignment) and IPS (In-Plane Switching) were developed to improve the narrow viewing angle of TN.
VA is made after the liquid crystal polymer is aligned into the vertical direction and has film added to correct the viewing angle, where IPS is made for revolving the liquid crystal polymer at the same place as it cannot be placed within the LCD panel. As a result, IPS will give you a clearer image from any angles.
IPS panel has the fast response speed of liquid crystal and the optimal structure to process a vast amount of signals of high speed without data loss by using copper wiring with low resistance values. Also, as it has small amounts of source D-IC with its simple pixel structure, compared to the competitors, it is advantageous in the cost.
IPS panel maintains a very stable screen when touched, so it is very good for touch screens that implement important interactive functions in the future displays. On the other hand, when you touch VA panel, the screens flashes instantly as if a lightning is striking. So its afterimage remains seriously on the screen and it makes it disadvantageous to implement the functions of the touch screen.
Though IPS liquid crystal is aligned horizontally and it doesn't stray from its original places when touched, VA is aligned vertically. So its alignment gets crooked when touched. In addition, it has about 10 times faster restoring force to return to its place after the touch, compared to VA.
IPS panel has excellent in the color shift from the viewing angle and the gamma shift from the brightness change. So it shows a clear color from any places of the angles.
To take over the markets of LCD TVs in China, LG Display advertizes IPS as IPS Ingping, focusing on the excellent restoring force of liquid crystal and no afterimage even at the screen touches.
At present, Chinese local TV set manufacturers such as Skyworth, Haier, Hisense, Changhong and Konka, etc. and the global TV set manufacturers such as LG Electronics, Philips and Panasonic joined in this area, recognizing excellence of IPS technology and went on marketing of 'IPS Ingping' jointly with LG Display.
Chinese customers recognize that IPS technology representing Ingping is excellent in its clear and vivid video, stable picture quality (no afterimage when touched), wide filed of view (179°) and low power consumption (30% energy conservation compared to its existing amount).
In fact, an increasing amount of Chinese customers comes to the electronics stores to touch the surfaces of TVs to check if they are real IPS panels.
